Prince Harry is believed to be planning on returning to the UK for the first time since stepping down from royal duties following the death of his grandfather Prince Philip – but it remains unclear if heavily pregnant wife Meghan Markle will join him.
Royal sources say Duke of Sussex is likely to attend the funeral as he ‘wants nothing more than to be there for his family’ as they mourn the loss of the Duke of Edinburgh, 99.
However, the Duchess of Sussex will check if it is safe for her to travel before making a decision, according to a report. It’s thought the new royal baby is due in the spring or summer.
A source close to the family told MailOnline: ‘Harry will absolutely do his utmost to get back to the UK and be with his family.
‘He will want nothing more than to be there for his family, and particularly his grandmother, during this awful time.
‘Meghan is obviously pregnant so she will need to take advice from her doctors about whether it is safe for her to travel, but I think Harry will definitely go.’
Given his status as a member of the royal family travelling to support the Queen, Harry may be considered exempt from Covid travel restrictions.
Prince Philip ‘passed away peacefully’ this morning at Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace said today.
Tributes have since flooded in, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson praising his ‘extraordinary life and work’ in a speech this afternoon.
Harry and Meghan’s return to Britain will come after an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in which they accused an unidentified member of the Royal Family of ‘raising concerns’ about how dark their son Archie’s skin might be when he’s born.

Oprah later clarified these comments did not come from Prince Philip or the Queen.
Meghan also claimed ‘the firm’ refused to help when she told them she was experiencing suicidal thoughts.
Buckingham Palace said the whole family was ‘saddened’ by the ‘serious allegations’ which will ‘be addressed by the family privately’ – although added that ‘recollections may vary’.
Harry was close to his grandfather, who is said to have taken him and Prince William under his wing after the death of their mother Princess Diana in 1997.
In an interview with James Corden last month, the duke affectionately spoke of Zoom calls with the monarch and her husband.
‘My grandfather, instead of, like, pressing “leave meeting”, he just goes “doof”,’ he laughed, mimicking someone slamming down the laptop. ‘I’m like, “OK, bye!”’
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their first Netflix series this week. Named ‘Heart of Invictus’, the docu-series will follow competitors as they prepare for the 2022 Invictus games.
