Meghan Markle asked Prince Harry to ‘have a word’ with the Queen about letting them live at Windsor Castle, reports have claimed.
In August 2019, The Sunday Times reported that Harry and Meghan had asked the Queen about the possibility of staying at Windsor, where the Queen spends her weekends and has stayed for the entirety of lockdown.
Now, royal sources quoted by The Sun say Meghan was upset over not being allowed to stay in the 100-room castle.
The source said: ‘She asked Harry to have a word. But the Queen politely turned down the request.
‘Harry and Meghan were initially delighted with Frogmore Cottage but in the end it was wrong for them and they were isolated from everyone.’
The Sussexes spent £2.5 million on renovations at Frogmore Cottage, where they lived until they decided to step back as senior royals early last year.
The couple took their engagement photos on the cottage’s front steps and hosted their more intimate wedding reception there.

Frogmore was originally used by Queen Charlotte in 1790 for her and her unmarried daughters.
Later on, in 1875, Queen Victoria dined in the house but called the frogs in the area ‘quite dreadful’.
The claims follow Harry and Meghan’s bombshell interview with Oprah, which aired in the US last night.
Among many other revelations, they told viewers that their second baby is a girl, that the couple secretly got married before their royal wedding and that Meghan suffered from suicidal thoughts.
The UK will be able to watch the full conversation tonight on ITV.
