Harry and Meghan’s tell-all interview is ‘like Princess Diana is getting revenge from beyond the grave’ on Buckingham Palace, her biographer has said.
Andrew Morton highlighted that Prince Harry’s late mother was the ‘trailblazer’ in speaking out against the British monarchy, in the wake of her son and daughter-in-law’s interview with Oprah Winfrey last night.
The journalist, who worked secretly with the Princess of Wales to tell her story about life in the Royal Family, said Diana would be ‘enjoying’ the fact that the couple are now having their moment 25 years later.
However, he said there is ‘no question’ that she would want her sons to repair their damaged relationship.
Prince Harry told Oprah in the interview, which will air on ITV in the UK tonight, that his mother would be ‘angry and very sad’ to see how things have turned out – but would want him to be happy.
Piers Morgan questioned Mr Morton over what he thinks Princess Diana would make of the couple’s interview, adding she ‘surely would not be enjoying any of this’.
The biographer told Good Morning Britain: ‘I think the irony is she would be enjoying it. It’s almost like Diana’s getting her revenge from beyond the grave.
‘I mean, remember she was the trailblazer in this, she put the boot into Prince Charles 20-odd years ago.
‘She talked about wanting to be the queen of people’s hearts, which prompted the Queen herself to get involved in their divorce.’
Mr Morgan interjected: ‘She wouldn’t want William and Harry at war, they don’t talk at the moment. I know for a fact they’re not talking.’
‘No, there’s no question at all that she would want William and Harry to reconcile,’ Mr Morton responded.
‘But remember, she was actually thinking of moving to Malibu. She was going to buy Julie Andrews’ house… And also, Oprah was going to interview her and then Martin Bashir swooped in.’
During Harry and Meghan’s interview her son said: ‘I think she would feel very angry with how this has panned out and very sad, but ultimately all she’d ever want is for us to be happy.’

Princess Diana’s 1995 Panorama interview with Mr Bashir, which was watched by almost 23 million, was the first time a royal had spoken so openly about what goes on behind the scenes at the Palace.
The bombshell interview saw the mother reveal details about her failed marriage to Prince Charles and his affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles, with her famously stating: ‘There were three of us in this marriage’.
She also spoke about the immense pressure within the family and how she struggled with bulimia and loneliness.
Speaking to Oprah, Prince Harry said: ‘I can’t begin to imagine what it would have been like for her going through this process alone herself all those years ago.
‘At least we have each other.’
Harry said his decision to step back as working royals led to the family cutting him off financially and that father Prince Charles stopped taking his calls after they left the UK.
He also revealed how his relationship with brother William is ‘space’ following his decision, but hopes ‘time heals all things’.
‘I have got what my mum left me, and without that I would not have been able to do this,’ he added.
The couple told how their mental health suffered before they chose to step back as working royals, with the duchess emotionally recounting how she contemplated taking her own life.
Meghan also said how an unnamed member of the royal family had raised ‘concerns’ about how dark her unborn baby’s skin would be when she was pregnant with Archie, now one.
Prince Harry later confirmed Meghan’s version of events to Oprah, but refused to name the royal who had made the remarks to him.
