Six in ten Britons don’t support wars

Six out of ten people in Britain do not back the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, a new army survey published reveals.

Five years after the invasion of Iraq, only 41 per cent of the public support the operations by our troops in the two combat-ravaged countries, according to the Army’s own figures.

But although most people are against the operations, there is significant support for British soldiers stationed abroad, with 87 per cent saying they are behind them.

More than half of people said they are proud of those fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan – but do not like what the troops are being asked to do.

People from ethnic backgrounds are less likely to think the force has a positive impact.
