
Two children were killed in an air strike called by British forces who came under attack from a Taliban ambush in Afghanistan, it emerged yesterday.
Two women also died, while another person was hurt in the attack in Helmand province, southern Afghanistan.
British troops radioed for help after they came under heavy fire from Taliban fighters on Tuesday but the blast hit a group of civilians.
The MoD said it was investigating the deaths. A spokesman added: ‘We deeply regret that this incident happened and do everything we can to mitigate this from happening.’
Nato spokesman Brigadier Gen Carlos Branco blamed the deaths on insurgents who attacked members of the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force.
