Andrea McLean revealed on Loose Women today that she thought the Royal Baby name was a joke.
Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle yesterday introduced the adorable Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor to the world and surprised a few with the rather unconventional name.
On Loose Women today, Andrea and the rest of the panel discussed the name after they were all tearful upon seeing Archie for the first time yesterday.
‘I thought it was a joke when I first heard it,’ the 49-year-old presenter said.
When pressed by fellow panellist Nadia Sawalha, she explained: ‘I did. I thought “Oh” Archie.’
She then added: ‘Oh no, it’s real.’
The panel discussed how they thought Archie was short for the more formal sounding Archibald.
‘Because it’s just not a sort of royal sounding name. Maybe if it was Archibald or something like that,’ she said.
‘I think it’s very lovely, it’s very sweet but it’s just not traditional.’
Nadia said she’s a fan of the name because it’s ‘very American’ and said she called her own daughter Maddie for that reason.
Jane Moore, 56, added: ‘I think it’s a good rough, tough name.’
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
