Baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s parents Prince Harry and Meghan Markle certainly have a lot of real estate to choose from – which should come as no surprise, what with them being members of the Royal Family and all.
During their time as an either engaged or married couple, Harry and Meghan have lived in and been gifted various properties all over the country.
It’s certainly alright for some!
Now that their baby boy Archie has been born, let’s take a closer look at the various family homes. After all, baby Archie might be taking up residence in one of them in the near future…
Nottingham Cottage
Following the announcement of their engagement, Meghan moved in with the Prince into Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace.
Nottingham Cottage used to be the home of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and, even though it’s still Harry and Meghan’s to use as their London residence as far as we know, it may well be gifted to future coupled-up royals as Harry and Meghan move to larger residences.
Here’s looking at you Princess Beatrice.
Cotswold Farmhouse
The Sussexes moved into a rented farmhouse in the Cotswolds in the run-up to their wedding in May 2018. It was their country bolthole; a place they could escape the London lens as they prepared for their big day.
This residence was also where the couple reportedly entertained a host of their celebrity friends, including the likes of Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas, George and Amal Clooney, Serena Williams and the Beckhams, who were their Oxfordshire neighbours.
Their rented pad, which is understood to have been on The Great Tew Estate, was 4,000 sq ft, and the building included floor-to-ceiling windows, upper and lower kitchens, and two separate bedrooms for staff.
It is understood the couple stopped renting this property in January, when they began work on their current property Frogmore Cottage, but it’s likely they could choose to rent it again to enjoy English summers with their son in the country.
York Cottage
Though it has never been officially confirmed, York Cottage was reportedly a wedding gift to Meghan and Prince from the Queen.
The royal stately home is located in the grounds of Sandringham Estate, where the Queen’s own Norfolk home Sandringham House can be found.
York Cottage, which used to be known as the Bachelor’s Cottage ironically enough, was initially gifted by the future King Edward VII, then the Prince of Wales, to his son Prince George, the Duke of York, who would later rule as King George V, in 1893.
Adelaide Cottage
In July of last year, Harry and Meghan were reportedly given Adelaide Cottage as yet another wedding gift from the Queen.
Adelaide Cottage can be found on the grounds of Windsor Castle, and was previously the home of Peter Townsend – former lover of the Queen’s sister, Princess Margaret, and was originally built in 1931 as a retreat for King William IV’s wife, Queen Adelaide.
However, whether or not this is still in their possession is not known – it’s unlikely given they have spent millions renovating their current home, Frogmore Cottage, which is also in the grounds of Windsor Castle.
Apartment 1, Kensington Palace
Five months after they were married, and following renovations to restore the roof, Meghan and Prince Harry were rumoured to be preparing to move into Apartment 1 in Kensington Palace.
This would have meant they were living next door to Prince William and Kate Middleton, who live in Apartment 1A.
Richard, Duke of Gloucester, the Queen’s cousin, calls Apartment 1 home but had apparently offered to move out when Harry and Meghan got engaged so that the soon-to-be-married royals could have more space.
However, just as they were about to move into the newly-renovated apartment, it was announced that Meghan was pregnant.
In November, roughly a month after the announcement of Meghan’s pregnancy, the couple reportedly made plans to move to Frogmore Cottage instead, which offers them seclusion and plenty of room in which to raise their child.
There were however also reports of a growing rift between Prince Harry and his brother William, and this move did nothing to quell those rumours.
Frogmore Cottage
This cottage has been a hot topic of conversation when it comes to this branch of the Royal Family, as just this year, Harry and Meghan made the move to the cottage, after spending millions of pounds on renovations, with a view to making it their more permanent residence.
Frogmore Cottage lies on the same estate as Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding reception venue Frogmore House, and was a gift to the couple from Harry’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.
The Grade II listed building, which was previously known as Double Garden Cottage, is nestled within 35 acres of Berkshire countryside, which is secluded within the grounds of Windsor’s Home Park, and will no doubt provide a private and peaceful sanctuary in which the Harry and Meghan can raise their child, who we now know is called Archie.
Before Prince Harry and Meghan’s move there, Harry was said to be keen on moving in, and to get on with married life away from the ‘goldfish bowl’ of royal life in London.
While some might say that the young couple have plenty of homes to choose from, this year it has been reported that they are also looking for a home away from home.
They might not own real estate in Los Angeles just yet, but they are said to be house-hunting in that area.
If they do end up buying a property in LA, it would mean they’d have a place they could stay near Meghan’s mum, Doria Ragland, who currently resides in California.
In addition to a possible move to LA, the Prince and Meghan have also been rumoured to be considering a move to an African country with a view to focusing on charity work.
Malawi, Botswana or South Africa are all reportedly on the table, with Botswana being a particularly significant place for the couple as that’s where it’s thought they fell in love, and is the source of the centre diamond on Meghan’s engagement ring.
