What will Kate and William call their new baby? Whatever they damn well like, obviously.
The bookies have a few ideas already, but what names could be the most meaningful to the royal couple? We have a few speculative suggestions…
Girls’ names
1. Emilia

Pretty without being insipid, this elegant name could appeal to Kate and William given that Prince George’s godmother shares the same one. Emilia is also credited with introducing Kate and William at university.
2. Rebecca

Not a name befitting royalty, you say? True perhaps, but it’s a classic none-the-less.
Rebecca is a name often reserved in literature for the most beautiful, strong or even treacherous heroines, which could well appeal to romantic Kate and Wills. Plus it’s the name of Kate’s trusted close aide Rebecca Deacon.
3. Elizabeth

Already touted as a top name (10/1) and no wonder – it would reference not only the current queen but also the first Queen Elizabeth – one of the strongest monarchs in English history.
4. Anna
Regal without the stuffiness of ‘Anne’.
5. Mary
Definitely a regal name, although admittedly the first Queen Mary wasn’t known for her glowing reputation. Perhaps a new royal Mary could repair the bloodied image left by her predecessor…
Boys’ names
1. Henry

Another favourite for bookies (10/1), this popular monarchs’ name can also be shortened to Harry – a nod to his cheeky uncle.
2. Alfred
Can be shortened to Freddie, which as far as we’re concerned goes right up there with ‘Harry’ when it comes to cute naughty boys’ names.
3. Arthur
So sweet, and massively regal – one of the most legendary kings ever was called Arthur.
4. John
A modern classic, John is a solid and weighty name.
5. Hugh
Hugh is a quintessentially English name, and Kate and William could possibly opt for it in remembrance of their friend’s late father, Hugh van Cutsem, who was also a close friend of Prince Charles.
