Prince William may be only 32, but his thinning hair has provided papers with column inches for years. Because while he may have the looks and the charm, there’s no denying that he’s inherited his family’s gene for early hair loss.

In fact, experts predict that both Prince William and Prince Harry have bright, bald futures ahead of them.

But what will the heir to the throne look like at 50?

Well, according to Asim Shahmalak, one of Britain’s leading hair transplant surgeons, over the next 18 years, Prince William will lose almost all the hair from the top of his head (leaving him with a few rather unflattering side tufts).

And it seems Prince Harry won’t fare much better.

Although Harry, who turns 30 this year, currently has a fine(ish) head of hair, Dr Shahmalak predicts that he too will face the problems of male pattern baldness, just like his older brother, father and grandfather before him.

The good news (if you can call it that) is that the princes are not alone. According to Dr Shahmalak, half of all men will start to lose their hair by the time they are 50.

But with role models like Wayne Rooney normalising hair replacement surgeries, more and more men are deciding they won’t just watch their hair slip away, the doctor says. He has seen a 25 per cent increase in bookings over the past year at the Crown Clinic where he practices.

Wills has clearly decided to embrace his receding hairline. Whether Harry is as accepting remains to be seen.

Hair or no hair, we still think they both look rather dashing.
