After a blizzard and a rearranged start, Prince Harry was finally allowed to set off on his trek to the South Pole.
The 29-year-old’s task was made slightly easier after the organisers of the Walking With The Wounded hike shortened the 280km (174 miles) race by 60km because of delays caused by the freezing weather.
But the royal and his team of wounded service personnel now face a battle against altitude sickness as their trek begins at 2,500m above the ground in temperatures that will feel like -35C (-31F).
