Mia Farrow has deleted a tweet she posted saying she was ‘getting a little tired’ of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, following a backlash.
The actress and campaigner, 78, seemed to surprise her followers as she shared her thoughts on the couple.
Rosemary’s Baby star Farrow originally tweeted to her 467,800 followers on the platform, where she is a prolific user: ‘Here’s my unkind thought of the day: I’m getting a little bit tired of Harry and Meghan.’
She then added: ‘Of course those who remember the heartbreaking image of Harry, a child, walking behind his mum’s casket – and we can only wish him and both of every happiness.’
However, it seemed the damage was done as people hit back at Farrow, with some branding her ‘a hypocrite’.
One follower complained that she had been airing her family’s ‘dirty laundry… for decades’, while another added: ‘Imagine having this many skeletons in one’s closet but having the nerve to say you are tired of a man and woman you do not know and have not been seen or heard from in months.’
She was also accused of being ‘unkind’, with one person replying that it was ‘unkind and unnecessary of you to join in on the let’s hate on the Harry and Meghan bandwagon’.
Another called her behaviour ‘so disappointing’.
The star, who has previously praised Meghan as ‘intelligent, compassionate and beautiful’ in 2019, as she said Great Britain was ‘fortunate’ to have her, has since deleted the tweets.
It was confirmed on Wednesday that Prince Harry will be attending the coronation of King Charles in May, but without his wife or their two children, three-year-old Archie and Lilibet, 22 months.
A statement from the Palace released today said: ‘Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May.
‘The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.’
Archewell, Harry and Meghan’s charitable foundation, issued a near identical statement confirming the duke will join guests at the coronation.
Coronation day on May 6 is Prince Archie’s fourth birthday, and the couple’s biographer Omid Scobie has said this ‘played a factor in the couple’s decision’.
He added that he expects it to be a ‘fairly quick trip to the UK’ for Harry, who is predicted to only attend the ceremony itself.
It initially appeared uncertain if the couple would be welcome at the event after they did a string of interviews laying bare their troubled relationship with Harry’s family.
In his book Spare, the 38-year-old claimed the Prince of Wales physically attacked him in a row over Meghan.
He also seemed to confirm reports of a rocky relationship between his wife and Kate, Princess of Wales, by sharing texts showing a tense exchange over a bridesmaid dress.
It’s since been reported that Prince Harry and the King had a ‘heart to heart’ before he agreed to come to his father’s coronation.
It is claimed the pair have spoken and there is a ‘willingness and wanting to mend on both sides’ after a tumultuous few months.
