Alec Baldwin has praised Meghan Markle and Prince Harry for their handling of the press amid their departure from royal proceedings and personal issues.
The Departed actor, 64, revealed his admiration for the couple as they chose a path that was ‘good for them’ and joked he wished he could do the same.
Appearing in New York City ahead of a hosting gig at the Ripple of Hope Award Gala, the star – who has faced controversy in the press himself – made his feelings towards the Duke and Duchess of Sussex known.
The polarising couple was honoured at the ceremony for their work in helping ‘to protect and advance equity, justice, and human rights’.
Other honourees included Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and late NBA star Bill Russell.
Speaking on the red carpet, Alec commented on Harry, 38, and 41-year-old Meghan’s, appearance at the event: ‘I was kind of shocked for them to come here and do this.’

He was probed further for reasons he admired the pair: ‘To handle difficult circumstances in the press without having too much difficulty. There’s always going to be certain difficulties.’
‘They’ve obviously chosen a different path and good for them.
‘Sometimes I think I want to choose a different path so we’ll see, maybe I can be their driver.
‘They’re newly arrived in the states. They haven’t been here that long. I think it’s great they have agreed to support this cause which we’ve supported for years.’
The star left final words for the couple and encouraged them to ‘enjoy New York’.

Prince Harry and Meghan looked ever the dashing duo at the star-studded event dressed in black tie ensembles.
Mother to Archie and Lilibet, Meghan wore a white off-the-shoulder dress with long sleeves and completed her outfit with a black clutch bag and stylish pendant earrings.
Harry held up an umbrella for his wife as she got out of the car and sported a black dress suit with a crisp white shirt and tie.
The unexpected trip for the royal couple came just before the first part of their highly anticipated Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan is to hit screens.
The first three instalments of the series will be released on Thursday December 8, with three additional episodes following on a week later on December 15.
