Channel 4’s controversial programme The Taking of Prince Harry would have made a fascinating documentary, but it failed miserably as a drama.

The mere prospect of a programme that imagines the kidnap of Prince Harry in Afghanistan has had devoted royalists and serial offendees up in arms for weeks, but really, the most offensive thing about it was the sheer pointlessness of it.
It’s documentary element was fascinating in itself, with a host of talking heads providing sensible analysis, but the drama was entirely unnecessary.
