Richard Madeley has slammed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as ‘moaners, not victims’ in a heated discussion about whether Camilla should become Queen consort.
He and Susanna Reid had been speaking to royal experts about the Queen’s decision to name Camilla Queen consort after Prince Charles becomes king, rather than princess consort as she had been expected to be known.
The Queen had made the announcement as part of a message for her platinum jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne.
Her majesty had said in her public message: ‘I would like to express my thanks to you all for your support. I remain eternally grateful for, and humbled by, the loyalty and affection that you continue to give me.
‘And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.’
However, opinion polls have shown the public is not keen on the decision, with some labelling it as ‘emotional indifference’ towards Prince William and Harry’s mother, Princess Diana.

Richard interrupted a guest to share his opinion, telling them: ‘Hang on – we have to finish it here – but come on, there’s very little public sympathy, in this country at least, for Harry and Meghan.
‘I mean, they are not seen in this country as victims at all, they are seen as moaners basically, by the vast majority of people. It is different in America.’

Susanna quickly interjected to stop the debate turning to Harry and Meghan before it started, telling him: ‘Let’s not, let’s not get into that particular argument.
‘No, Angela [Levin, guest], I’m really sorry we have to leave it there, and that’s not because we were starting to talk about Harry and Meghan, that is simply because it is 8.32.’
Richard then joked: ‘We’re out of time. It is competition time and that is important!’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
