Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway took a swipe at Prince Harry live on-air, calling him out for making what she perceived to be ‘excuses’.
This week, Harry, 37, took part in Inner Work Day for start-up BetterUp, a company that provides professional coaching, counselling and mentorship of which he is Chief Impact Officer.
While speaking to the firm’s CEO Alexi Robichaux and tennis superstar Serena Williams in a clip shown on GMB, the Duke of Sussex said that ‘mental fitness is the pinnacle’, saying that it can be a ‘bumpy road’.
‘It’s called inner work for a reason, and I think that immediately might put some people off, going, ‘more work?’ It’s like, why?’ but the outer work becomes so much easier once you get to grips with the inner work,’ he said.
After watching the clip on Friday’s edition of GMB, Kate remarked that in her opinion, saying that someone is doing the ‘inner work’ on themselves might mean that they ‘haven’t done the outer work’.
She expanded on the point later while discussing the Bafta nominations announced yesterday with Ben Shephard and Richard Arnold, when it was suggested that a new category should be introduced to honour outstanding talent.
‘Well there’s another excuse – from Prince Harry this morning we’ve got “we’re too busy on our inner work to do any outer work”, and we’re too talented for awards, Richard!’ she quipped.
‘I’ve had no inner work whatsoever for quite some time,’ Richard retorted.
‘The outer work looks great though!’ Ben joked.
In December, Kate questioned whether Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, tried to ‘usurp’ the Queen with their Christmas card photo.
During the summit attended by Harry this week, he opened up about suffering from ‘burnout’ as he emphasised the need for ‘self-care’.
The duke said that he was ‘literally getting to the very end of everything that I had, any fuel or any steam in the engine just like I was burning the candle at both ends’.
‘And it was like boom, that is when you are forced to look inside yourself, because with everything else around you seemingly, you feel as though it’s working against you, the only way that you could really combat it,’ he added.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
