Prince Harry went into ‘panic mode’ after the Queen spent the night in hospital last week, according to reports.
The Duke of Sussex is said to be ‘checking in non-stop’ to make sure his grandmother is okay.
Palace aides have been scrambling to cut-back the Queen’s busy schedule to prevent her becoming overworked and exhausted.
As she awaits medical results, the head of state has dropped out of the UN’s COP26 climate summit in Glasgow next week and will instead send a video message.
This was after backing out of a planned trip to Northern Ireland – her first cancelled royal duty in 15 years.
The Queen has been unable to walk her dogs for a week after being told to rest by doctors, but she has been carrying out virtual audiences from Buckingham Palace this week.
Harry reportedly felt ‘helpless’ after learning the 95-year-old monarch had been taken to hospital on Wednesday last week, while he was at home in California.
An unsubstantiated source told US Weekly: ‘He felt helpless being 5,000 miles away in Montecito, and has been checking in non-stop with her.’
Buckingham Palace has come under fire for failing to mention that the Queen was at King Edward VII’s Hospital in London for a night.
Initially the media was told she was resting at Windsor Castle, but aides eventually mentioned the hospital stay on Thursday night after the news leaked out.
Staff have been urged to be more transparent over the head of state’s health as a matter of public interest.
The Queen was said to be in ‘good spirits’ when she was discharged from hospital, but she has been told to take it easy at home.
It is understood her medical team acted as a precautionary measure, but her grandson is still concerned.
A source said Harry ‘feels guilty about not saying goodbye’ to Prince Philip before he died in April.
They added: ‘He would never forgive himself if the same thing happened with his beloved grandmother.’
Harry is thought to be planning a return to the UK this year to catch up with family.
Sources claim he is planning to come back with Meghan Markle in time for Christmas so the Queen can finally meet her great-granddaughter Lilibet for the first time.
