Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have severed another tie with the UK by winding up their Sussex Royal foundation.

The Sussexes have made an application to liquidate the charity, according to filings on Companies House. It is likely the couple will now want to focus their time on the Archewell Foundation, which they launched in 2020.

This week, they announced on their third wedding anniversary that the foundation plans to build a Community Relief Centre in Mumbai, India, among other charitable projects.

Sussex Royal, The Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, officially changed its name to the MWX Foundation in 2020 after Harry and Meghan stepped back from the Royal Family.

The foundation had initially been launched in July 2019 after Harry and Meghan split their shared charity with Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The Sussexes have not revealed what the new name MWX stands for, although it could be Markle Windsor or Mountbatten Windsor, in honour of their son Archie’s name.

Meghan and Harry were ordered not to use royal titles in their charitable and commercial branding last year after they started their new financially independent life in the US.

Earlier this week it was reported that palace aides have been calling for the Sussexes to lose their titles for good, after Harry discussed aspects of the Royal Family on a podcast with actor Dax Shepard.

In the 90-minute conversation, Harry suggested Prince Charles passed down his childhood ‘suffering’ via his parenting and said he and Meghan moved to Montecito in California to ‘break the cycle of genetic pain’.

He also said he felt like he ‘didn’t want the job’ of prince while in his 20s, telling the hosts: ‘I don’t want to be here, I don’t want to be doing this, look what it did to my mum.’

A source claimed: ‘They should put the titles into abeyance, so they still exist, but are not used, like they agreed to do with their HRHs.

‘They should just become Harry and Meghan. And if they refuse to do that, they have to explain why not.’
