Meghan Markle finally opened up about her relationship with her dad in new footage from her bombshell conversation with Oprah Winfrey.
The interview queen asked Meghan if she felt betrayed by her dad, Thomas Markle, when he spoke to the tabloids about her.
But after a long pause to consider whether she felt ‘comfortable’ sharing that information, Meghan explained it was more that he lied about speaking to the media.
She told Oprah: ‘If were going to use the word betrayal, it’s because when I asked him, when the comms team told us this the story was coming out, we called my dad and I asked him and he said, “No, absolutely not.”‘
She said she told her dad: ‘I just need you to tell me, if you tell me the truth we can help.
‘And he didn’t do that, and that for me has really resonated as a mother. And also me saying full stop, if we use this to protect you we won’t be able to protect our grandchildren one day.
‘I look at Archie and I can’t imagine doing anything to hurt my child. I can’t reconcile that.’
She said in comparison her mum, Doria Ragland, had remained in ‘silent dignity’ for four years.
She also spoke about her half-sister, Samantha Markle, who recently published a book called ‘The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister Part 1’.
On Samantha’s book, Meghan told Oprah: ‘I think it would be very hard to “tell all” when you don’t know me.
‘This is a very different situation to with my dad. Betrayal comes from someone you have a relationship with.
‘I grew up as an only child, I wished I had siblings, I would be so excited to have siblings.
‘The first time I saw her must have been 18 or 19 years ago, and the last time, 10 years ago.
‘She changed her last name back to Markle in her early 50s, only when I started dating Harry, so I think that says enough.’
In more unaired clips broadcast today, which didn’t make the final cut of the interview, Prince Harry said a ‘large part’ of why he and Meghan left the UK was due to racism.
It was also revealed the Queen invited him to lunch amid Megxit talks, then suddenly cancelled on him after claiming she was too busy.
But he also said the Queen and Prince Philip were not behind the racist comments made about how dark their son Archie’s skin colour might be.
