Meghan Markle has been the centre of much attention since she first started dating Prince Harry, but this has only intensified ahead of her and Harry’s much-anticipated interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The two-hour interview, which will include both Harry and Meghan talking to the US broadcast icon, has been sending waves through the UK and US since it was first announced, with many speculating what Meghan might say.

Some are suggesting she is attacking ‘The Firm’ (the name given to the senior royals, including her father-in-law Prince Charles and the Queen) for perpetuating falsehoods about her, and new sources suggest she could open up about a rift with Kate Middleton.

The interview, which will be shown in the UK on ITV a day after airing in the States, could be the not-so-happy ending for the Duchess, who’s royal story has been far from a fairy tale.

As speculation focuses on the future of Harry and Meghan and their role in the Royal Family, let’s instead take a look back at Meghan’s life before Harry.

Who was she married to before?

Who was Meghan Markle married to before Prince Harry?

Meghan Markle has been married once before Harry, and her first husband was a producer named Trevor Engelson.

Engelson was born in New York and is 44, five years Markle’s senior.

In 2006, the pair met and dated for six years before getting engaged in 2010. They were married in 2011 in Jamaica.

The marriage only lasted two years.

Engelson has since moved on with second wife Tracey, whom he married in 2019.

The pair announced last year that they were due to become parents, expecting a baby girl.

He confirmed the news on social media, saying: He wrote on the post: ‘Future mother of the year and girl dad way outta his league! Best thing I’ve ever produced hands down.’

When is Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah?

The sit-down with Oprah Winfrey will first be shown in the US tonight, Sunday March 7.

The two-hour special will be shown on CBS at 1am GMT, which in the US is 8pm PT/ET and 7pm CT.

However, for those not wanting to stay up, the interview will be broadcast to UK viewers a day later, on Monday March 8.

ITV will be airing the full interview at 9pm.
