Prince Harry’s Apple TV+ series with Oprah Winfrey has been pushed back until at least spring 2021, according to reports.
Sources claim production on the Duke of Sussex’s documentary series about mental health has been slowed down due to ‘Covid restrictions, his exit from the Royal Family and move to the US’.
The show was due to be released last Autumn but an insider told The Sun the postponement was kept under wraps as ‘delays never look good’.
The royal, 36, and his wife Meghan, 39, first announced the show on their Sussex Royal Instagram account in 2019.
A description of the series read: ‘‘The dynamic multi-part documentary series will focus on both mental illness and mental wellness, inspiring viewers to have an honest conversation about the challenges each of us faces, and how to equip ourselves with the tools to not simply survive, but to thrive.
‘This commitment builds on The Duke of Sussex’s long-standing work on issues and initiatives regarding mental health, where he has candidly shared personal experience and advocated for those who silently suffer, empowering them to get the help and support they deserve.’
Speaking about the project, Harry said: ‘I truly believe that good mental health – mental fitness – is the key to powerful leadership, productive communities and a purpose-driven self.
‘It is a huge responsibility to get this right as we bring you the facts, the science and the awareness of a subject that is so relevant during these times.
‘Our hope is that this series will be positive, enlightening and inclusive – sharing global stories of unparalleled human spirit fighting back from the darkest places, and the opportunity for us to understand ourselves and those around us better.
‘I am incredibly proud to be working alongside Oprah on this vital series.’
Oprah previously revealed it was the duke who came up with the idea of working together.
She said: ‘We were having a discussion about, “What are the things that really matter to you in the world?”
‘And I’d asked Prince Harry that, and he said, “Climate change and mental health wellness.”
‘I went, “Gee, me too!” So, from there, the conversation went to, “I’m doing this thing for Apple…” and when I finished the conversation, he said, “Oh, if you need any help with that Apple thing…” [and I was like], “Actually, I do!”
‘Would I have asked him? Probably not, so that’s how that [partnership] came about.’
It comes after Harry and Meghan launched their highly-anticipated Archewell Audio podcast this week.
