A little boy asked Prince Harry if he worked at a Christmas tree shop while the duke was out shopping with his wife Meghan.
The mix-up happened as the couple were looking for a fir tree to go in their Santa Barbara mansion for their first Christmas since leaving the UK earlier this year.
It is understood they were looking at the trees at Big Wave Dave’s Christmas Trees & Pumpkin Patch, which has been set up in tents in the car park of Macy’s department store in Santa Barbara.
The shop had agreed to clear the area of other customers but a family happened to still be inside, according to reports.
A child made a dash for Harry and mistook him for someone who worked at the shop, according to salesman James Almaguer.
Writing on Twitter, Mr Almaguer went on to describe Harry as a ‘chill lad’ and Meghan as ‘very kind.’
He said: ‘Megan and Prince Harry came into my work today and we sold them their Christmas tree.
‘It was anticlimactic, but a very, very interesting experience.
‘We had our lot empty when they got there – their agent promoted them a good time to come instead of us shutting it down.
‘There was one family in there and their stoked little son ran through trees up to Harry and asked if he worked here not knowing who that is.
‘They seems like very nice people honestly. Meghan sounds very kind and Harry sounded and acted like a chill lad honestly. I’m really glad they liked our trees. We got the best we could get. Very appreciative.’
The shop is around eight miles from the Sussexes’ £11million home in Montecito they share with 17-month old son Archie.
The family have still not officially been back to the UK since moving across the Atlantic.
Traditionally the whole Royal family spend Christmas at Sandringham but earlier this week it was announced the Queen will spend this year at Windsor Castle, due to the pandemic.
The 94-year-old Monarch and the Duke of Edinburgh, 99, may see some family members briefly in line with coronavirus guidelines but the main festive celebrations are likely to involve only the couple.
