Prince Harry could be sent back to serve on the frontline in Afghanistan, the head of Britain’s armed forces said.
But his return would be permitted only if it did not endanger fellow soldiers, he warned.
Harry returned home on Saturday after his presence in Helmand province was revealed by US website, the Drudge Report.
Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup, the chief of the defence staff, hinted that Harry could yet return.
But he added: ‘I would have to be clear that the risks to the operation in the widest sense, of the people deployed on that operation, would be no higher than they normally would be in such circumstances.’
Friends of the prince, 23, revealed that he had said he would quit England and live in Africa, where he has carried out charity work, if he was denied a return to Afghanistan.
