Ellen DeGeneres has a lot of celebrity connections, so it’s not really that surprising that she managed to wangle an afternoon date with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Over the summer, Ellen flew into London with her wife Portia de Rossi and they met with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and baby Archie.
In fact, Ellen got to hold little Archie and even fed the tot while she was there.
She had been in town to discuss wildlife conversation with Harry and Meghan and joked on The Ellen DeGeneres Show: ‘I just want to say it was an honour for them to meet me.’
The chat show host then recalled her time with baby Archie and said: ‘The most important thing is I got to hold Archie. I fed Archie.’
‘He weighs 15 pounds which is the exchange rate of $17 here,’ she joked, before revealing Archie looks just like his dad Prince Harry.
And while she teased the crowd by asking if they wanted to see a picture of the bubba, Ellen instead revealed a drawing she had done of Archie.
‘I don’t have [a picture],’ she said. ‘I didn’t think it was right to, but I did draw a picture of him… he had more hair than I did at the time.’
Ellen went on to praise Harry and Meghan and said she doesn’t think it’s fair that the royal couple are constantly having to face criticism for others.
She was one of the celebrities, along with Pink, who defended the couple after they were slammed for taking four private jet trips, despite urging others to reduce their carbon footprint.
Ellen took to Twitter insisting that Harry and Meghan are two of the most ‘compassionate people’ she has ever met and commented: ‘Imagine being attacked for everything you do, when all you’re trying to do is make the world better.’
Throwing her support behind the royals once again, she added on her show: ‘Seriously, they are so amazing.
‘They’re the cutest couple, so down to earth. And I just hate it, I see them get attacked and it’s not fair.
‘They’re just two of the most down to earth, compassionate people, they are doing so much good in the world.’
Ellen revealed that she is planning to join forces with Harry and Meghan to work on a conversation project, after being impressed with the work they are doing for elephants in Botswana.
Prince Harry and Meghan, meanwhile, are set to head on a royal tour of Africa in a few weeks time and they’ll be bringing Archie along with them.
Speaking ahead of the tour, Harry has said: ‘On a personal note, I can’t wait to introduce my wife and son to South Africa! We’ll see all of you very soon.’
