It has been four days since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced the birth of their first child Archie.

He was born at 5.26am on Monday 6 May, weighing 7lbs 3oz and Prince Harry later appeared to confirm they had ‘a very healthy boy’

The couple then revealed their new baby to the world on Wednesday afternoon, and his name was announced just a few hours later.

While standing next to Harry and her new son, Meghan said: ‘It’s magic, it’s pretty amazing. I have the two best guys in the world so I’m really happy.’

So when can we expect the couple to return to their normal royal duties?

Despite Archie only being born on Monday, Prince Harry is already returning to work and is travelling to the Netherlands today.

He is likely to return to his family following his trip, but he will then be travelling to Oxford on Tuesday 14 May for another engagement.

The Duke of Sussex then has no other engagements scheduled after that for the next eight weeks, according to the Royal Family schedule, but this could still change.

Meghan Markle doesn’t currently have any engagements scheduled, and it seems likely that she will take time off for at least a couple of months.

This is always subject to change and many people believe that the Duchess of Sussex might not stay away from her role for too long.

The law for statutory maternity leave in the UK states that new mothers can take up to 52 weeks leave, split into 26 weeks of ordinary leave and 26 weeks of additional leave.

There is also the option for shared parental leave, where you can take off separate periods of work, or have time off together all at once.

Meghan went on maternity leave on 19 March, which means she has currently been away from her work for three weeks, which is a similar period of time that Kate had off prior to giving birth to Prince Louis.

Kate had varying amounts of time off after the birth of her three children, taking two months off after Prince George, five months for Princess Charlotte, and six months after the birth of Prince Louis.

Neither Prince Harry or Meghan have confirmed how much time they will be taking off following the birth of Archie, but it is likely they will need some time to adjust to life with their first baby.

The couple also moved into their new home at Frogmore Cottage last month, which means they will probably have even more settling in to do before they can get back into their work routine.
