Meghan Markle’s due date is still not known, but we do think it’ll likely be around the next month or so.
Given that she announced she was six months pregnant in January, it’s not too difficult to do the maths and assume.
One thing we don’t yet know, though, is what she and Prince Harry might choose to name their baby once it’s born.
Will they go for something new and different, go for an homage to Harry’s late mother Diana, or stick to Royal tradition? Only time will tell.
If they do stick to tradition, though, they have quite a roster of names to choose from. Let’s take a look at the most popular names from the Royal Family over the last 200 years.
Albert
According to a study by Expedia, there have been a whopping twelve Alberts since 1819.
Probably the most famous was Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria, who allegedly sparked the naming of the famous genital piercing.
George
George comes in second with ten royals bearing the name.
Of course, it’s unlikely that Harry will copy his brother Wills and name his own child after their first born son. That would likely be feud-worthy behaviour.
Charles
Charles could be a great option for Harry and Meghan, firstly due to its popularity in Harry’s lineage, with eight of his ancestors being named it.
It would also act as a perfect homage to Prince Charles himself.
Edward
In at number four is Edward. There have been seven royals called this over the years.
Prince Harry’s uncle Edward might feel pleased to have a new royal baby named after him, but odds on this at William Hill are sitting at a paltry 16/1 currently.
Christian/Louis/Arthur/Frederick
All these names came fifth over the last 200 years, with five royals named this each.
It’s worth noting, however, that if you cast the net wider, there are an even bigger pool of names to choose from. Richard, for example, would have made it in second. Could there be a little Royal Ricky entering Frogmore House soon?
Victoria
Queen Victoria first comes to mind when we think of this royal name, and it’s interesting that both her and her husband top the list.
There have been nine royal babies named this over the last two centuries.
Mary
Seven royal Marys have been observed in 200 years.
Queen Mary, who married George V in the 1800s is the most notable with the name.
Louise/Alexandra
Lady Louise, daughter of Prince Edward, is only 15 years old, so it might not be totally pertinent to name a new royal baby this so soon.
However, there have six royal Louises over the years, so they’d both be in good company.
There have also been six Alexandras.
Elizabeth
This could be an option, as Harry is close with his grandma, and may want to honour her.
The odds of the baby being called Elizabeth – of which there have been five in 200 years – is currently only 16/1 however.
