Pregnant Meghan Markle could opt to give birth in an NHS hospital rather than the private Lindo Wing favoured by Kate Middleton.
According to a royal source, the Duchess of Sussex has been eyeing up Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey as it is much closer to Frogmore Cottage.
Her choice would be in stark contrast to the £7,500-a-night wing of St Mary’s Hospital, in Paddington, where the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
St Mary’s is 23 miles away from Windsor, whereas Frimley Park is a lesser 15 miles away.
A royal source told the Daily Mail: ‘If their Royal Highnesses have moved to Frogmore Cottage before the birth, as planned, Frimley Park may be a more easily accessible option than St Mary’s.’
Demi Lovato slams fat-shaming Instagram advert: ‘This is absolutely harmful’The Lindo Wing boasts en-suite rooms with a satellite TV, fridge, phone, free Wifi and a choice of daily newspaper.
Expectant mothers can also indulge in afternoon tea, lavish menus and bottomless champagne to celebrate the arrival of their newborn.
‘Discretion is key to our service, and we will ensure that you have the space, security and privacy you need to enjoy these precious early moments as a family,’ the brochure states.
Meanwhile, Frimley Park, which doesn’t offer private care for maternity patients, has 14 labour rooms available, which saw 5,350 births from April 2016 to April 2017.
But Meghan would not be the hospital’s first royal guest, with Sophie, Countess of Wessex, giving birth to daughter Lady Louise there in 2003.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Amy Santiago set for complicated #MeToo storyline in season 6Women with uncomplicated deliveries are expected to stay around six to 12 hours after giving birth at Frimley Park, while, unless there are special circumstances, partners are asked to leave overnight.
Private postnatal rooms are available for £100-a-night but are unlikely to be en-suite.
Meghan could opt to stay in one of the four birthing rooms in The Mulberry Birth Centre at Frimley Park, which are described as being more of a ‘homely environment’ where the focus is on ‘birth without medical intervention’.
There, active birthing is encouraged and rooms are fit with mood-changing lights, a bed, chair, bean bag and exercise ball.
Meghan is expected to give birth at the end of March or the beginning of April after announcing her pregnancy in October.
Boy, 6, in coma 'after dad beat him with vacuum for not doing homework'But recently a royal fan hinted that the baby could arrive much sooner after she met the former Suits actress on Christmas Day.
‘Meghan said she was excited, there wasn’t long left to go. She cradled her bump. She was so sweet!’ Karen Anvil tweeted.
A Twitter user then asked if the Duchess had revealed her due date, to which Karen replied: ‘No… she said “we’re nearly there!” – That sounds soon to me!!!!’
