Prince Charles proves he is a doting grandfather in these heartwarming new images

These adorable new photographs prove that Prince Charles is a hands-on, doting grandparent.

The heir to the throne can be seen laughing with delight as Prince Louis grabs at his grandfather’s hands.

A second previously unseen image also shows the Prince playing with the Duchess of Cornwall’s grandchildren, swinging one of them around.

The first image is a rare look at seven-month-old Prince Louis, who is held in his mother Kate’s arms.

It is certainly clear that he recognises his grandfather as the tot reaches out and tightly grasps his hands.

The image featured in a BBC documentary marking the 70th birthday of the heir to the throne.

It was taken in September in the gardens of Clarence House, the prince’s official London residence.

The TV show features interviews with his sons Prince William and Prince Harry, who say that growing up they would often have to wade through mountains of paperwork to get to their father’s desk.

There have been rumours over the years that Prince Charles has often felt pushed out of his grandchildren’s lives and expressed frustration that he didn’t see as much of them as the Middleton family.

Prince William appears to address that in his interview, saying he wishes his workaholic father would slow down and spend more time with family.

Asked whether his father had ‘time to be a grandfather on top of everything else’ the 36-year-old says carefully: ‘It’s something I’m working more heavily on, put it that way. I think he does have time for it, but I would like him to have more time with the children.

‘I think he’s… now he’s reached his 70th year it’s a perfect time to consolidate a little bit because as most families would do, you are worried about having them around and making sure their health’s okay. And he’s the fittest man I know but equally I want him to be fit until he’s 95 you know going on.

‘So, having more time with him at home would be lovely, and being able to you know play around, err, with the grandchildren. Because when he’s there, he’s brilliant. But we need him there as much as possible.’

It is therefore of no surprise that the Queen Mother’s death in March 2002 was a devastating blow to Prince Charles.

He said in an interview: ‘To me, she meant everything and I had dreaded this moment.’

Judging by the photographs, it appears Prince Charles is already many happy memories for his grandchildren to remember in years to come.
