Meghan Markle is said to have become firm friends with Kate Middleton as she struggles with her father Thomas Markle’s media outbursts.
The Duchess of Sussex has reportedly formed a strong bond with her new sister-in-law after reaching ‘her wit’s end’ because her family keep giving TV and press interviews.
Meghan has maintained a dignified silence on the matter and she now sees Kate as a ‘pillar of support’ as she adapts to life as a royal, it has been claimed.
According to Vanity Fair, sources close to Meghan and Harry said: ‘Meghan is at her wits’ end over this’ and that Kate has ‘made a big effort to be kind to Meghan and look out for her’.
‘Kate’s made a real effort to be kind to Meghan and to include her. They’re quite different characters but they get along well,’ the source said.
The pair were pictured together at the women’s singles final of Wimbledon recently where they looked like old friends.
Both women, 36, have bonded over their love of dogs, tennis and the great outdoors.
‘Kate’s really busy juggling three kids, including her new baby Prince Louis,’ the source told Vanity Fair.
‘She has a lot on her plate and she has her own friendship group, but she has made an effort with Meghan.
‘She’s been very sympathetic to what’s been going on with Meghan and her dad.’
Meghan has been accused by her father of cutting him off after he gave a spate of media interviews and she has increasingly turned to the Duchess of Cambridge for support.
Kate invites Meghan to her apartment at Kensington Palace for tea, and the pair talk on the phone once a week, the article claimed.
This weekend, lighting director Thomas, 74, revealed he has not spoken to his ‘beloved Bean’ Meghan for more than 10 weeks.
Thomas, who has never met his son-in-law but has spoken to Harry on the phone, claimed the rift was ‘punishment’ for him staging fake paparazzi pictures before the wedding.
He told the Mail on Sunday: ‘I’m really hurt that she’s cut me off completely.
‘I used to have a phone number and text number for her personal aides at the Palace, but after I said a few critical words about the Royal Family changing Meghan, they cut me off.
‘Those numbers were disconnected, they no longer work. I now have no way of contacting my daughter.
‘It’s her birthday on August 4 and I want to send her a card.
‘But if I send a birthday card to Kensington Palace, or wherever she’s living now, it’ll just be one among thousands. She’ll probably never see it.’
